Project Scope

The project's primary objective was to design and implement a production line. This encompassed everything from Geo fixtures and re-spot fixtures to material handling EOATs (End of Arm Tools), marketplace peg boards, storage stands, qualifying fixtures, turntable fixtures, and inspection carts.

Innovative Approaches to Complexity

A major challenge we faced was the need to create tools that could work for both two and three product variants. Our solution involved the utilization of a motion shuttle, where we mounted two Geo tools for different variants. This ingenious approach ensured continuous operation by shifting between active and idle tools.

Rather than relying on traditional robot EOATs transfer, we introduced Versa Rol with Antler for product transportation between stations. This decision not only enhanced efficiency but also showcased our commitment to exploring unconventional yet effective solutions.

Geo Tools : Precision in Design

Central to the success of our project was the design and implementation of Geo tools. These fixtures define the accurate geometry of welded panels. By crafting Geo tools, we ensured precision in the welding process and product assembly.

Marketplace Peg Board : Streamlining Operations

To streamline operations, we introduced the concept of a marketplace peg board. This strategic addition allowed operators to load all required products at the line's inception. As the marketplace traversed through various stations, gantry-mounted robots efficiently picked up panels, loading them onto the Geo stations with accuracy and care.

Storage Stands : Enhancing Robot Efficiency

We designed storage stands specifically catering to material handling tools. These stands proved invaluable for robots equipped with two styles of EOATs. By allowing robots to dock and undock EOATs based on product variants, we optimized the entire production process.

Inspection Cart : Ensuring Quality Assurance

Our commitment to quality assurance led to the development of an inspection cart. This tool accommodated all three product variants and was strategically positioned at the end of the line. Its primary function was to check weld spots, ensuring it complied with the quality standards.
